PROGRAMMABLE ENCODER 2.0

No Software, No App, No Installations

POSITAL introduced its powerful new programming capabilities and tools for their IXARC series of rotary encoders. Programmable incremental encoders have proven to be popular over the past several years since the measurement characteristics of the device (number of pulses per rotation, output level, etc.) can be modified through a software update without requiring any changes to physical components.

POSITAL has taken the programmability concept to a whole new level with the new generation of IXARC programmable rotary encoders.

– Incremental and absolute encoder functions on a common hardware platform
– Wide range of mechanical configurations and connector types – literally thousands of models are offered
– Professional configuration management over the whole lifecycle
Compact 36 mm versions – small enough to fit in the palm of your hand
– Very compact UBIFAST Configuration box creating WiFi Hotspot
– No software installation − Configuration using any WiFi enabled device
– Parameters to program: PPR, resolution, number of turns, direction
– Simple Programming
– UBIFAST configuration tool

With the new capabilities, the encoders’ performance characteristics can be extensively modified through software changes, without requiring any changes to physical components.

In a related development, POSITAL also introduced the UBIFAST configuration tool, a hardware module that can be easily connected to programmable encoders through accessory cables. The UBIFAST tool features a built-in WiFi hotspot and webserver. Once the tool has been powered up, any WiFi-enabled smartphone, tablet, or laptop computer can connect to the WiFi hotspot and the configuration interface will automatically open up in a standard web browser window – no app, no software installation, and no Internet connection are required. POSITAL also presents an Internet-enabled configuration management system for IXARC programmable encoders. Whenever a device is reconfigured, the operator has the option of registering the changes with POSITAL through an automatic email interface.

Applications

IXARC incremental encoders are ideal for various industries due to their small size and excellent performance. Their economical magnetic design makes them ideal for motor speed feedback, material handling applications and OEMs.

Mitsubishi Electric Releases FR-E800 Series Variable Frequency Drive

Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc. just released the newest addition to its lineup of variable frequency drives, the FR-E800 Series. The micro-driveFR-E800 GROUP features a built-in PLC, and will include safety functionality meeting IEC 61508 standards and support various networks, including Ethernet/IP, MODBUS/TCP, and the soon-to-be-released CC-Link IE TSN. The FR-E800 Series is designed for engineering, technology, and product managers in industries such as packaging, material handling, food and beverage, and water and pumping, as well as those who are adopting PM motors to improve their energy efficiency.

The FR-E800 is built upon Mitsubishi Electric’s proven variable speed control technology through years of reliable operation across various applications. It incorporates advanced capabilities in a compact footprint allowing for bookshelf style mounting. Additional features include extended programming functions, advanced fault detection features, and auto-tuning of PM motors for applications where energy efficiency is extremely important. The auto-tuning function includes configurable parameters to reach optimum performance, higher torque, faster acceleration, and lower noise level for quiet operation. This results in efficient control of motors and equipment to meet or exceed energy efficiency regulations.

For those OEMs that use induction motors in their equipment, the FR-E800 can control both induction and PM motors, helping to consolidate inventory and spare part management. The drive series is also dual-rated for light duty and normal duty, which may help achieve desired performance in smaller frame sizes.

“The FR-E800 introduces advanced features previously not available to micro-drives,” said Deana Fu, senior product manager at Mitsubishi Electric Automation. “From PM motor commutation and tuning to corrosion detection, and life time diagnostics of critical components, we feel that the FR-E800 will make a significant impact on manufacturing and HVAC.”

“We at Burns Controls are excited about the capabilities of the FR-E800 series,” Pat Burns Jr. said. “The features of the FR-E800 will help industries streamline their productivity, and enhancing manufacturing performance is something we have come to expect from Mitsubishi Electric and their products.”

Emerson’s FRL series new drain options

Burns Controls is now offering Emerson’s new drain options for its FRL Product Series 651/652/653.  The release of these two additional drain options for this product line adds more configuration flexibility, aiding the transition from obsolete products and are now available to configure on Filter Products in the DPM.

Emerson FRL 651_652_653

Available Drain Options
1. (New) Pulse Drain: This is the same drain that is currently available on the FlexiBlok products, and now on the Series 651/652/653
  • The diaphragm in this drain pulses when there is a pressure differential, such as a valve cycling or cylinder stroking downstream. This action flexes the diaphragm and allows the filter to discharge the entrapped water. This drain features an incorporated barbed fitting, which fits 3/16 ID tubing for easy discharge of liquid and contaminant.
2. (New) Automatic Drain – Normally Closed: When under pressure, this drain uses a float that initiates the bowl to discharge when the liquid rises.  When not under pressure, the drain is closed.
  • Brass drain material
  • Option to operate manually
  • Applications include: smaller compressors, water accumulation, and non-cold climates
3. (Existing) Automatic Drain – Normally Open: When under pressure, this drain uses a float that initiates the bowl to discharge when the liquid rises. In addition, all fluid will discharge when the pressure drops below 22 psi.
  • Brass drain material
  • Option to operate manually
  • Applications include: larger compressors, no water accumulation, and cold climates (prevent freezing issues)

Mitsubishi releases MELSERVO-J5 Series of Servo Products

Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc. Releases MELSERVO-J5 Series of Servo Products

MRJ5PR

Vernon Hills, Illinois – April 01, 2020

Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc. announced the release of its next generation MELSERVO-J5 Series of AC servo motors, amplifiers, and motion control units. The MELSERVO-J5 Series brings performance, reliability, flexibility and efficiency to a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, packaging, printing, converting, material handling and more.

MELSERVO-J5 is a result of continuous innovation and improvement upon the MELSERVO Series of products that Mitsubishi Electric has produced since 1988. New features are included to introduce a quality, competitive product to the AC servo marketplace.

New to the MELSERVO-J5 Series is the “quick tuning” function that allows users to quickly and reliably tune their servo mechanism in approximately 0.3 seconds. The servo amplifier sets the speed loop gain and suppresses machine resonance through the servo on command. No tuning experience is required because gain values are automatically generated, reducing machine setup time and effort. Additional functions and features include an advanced vibration suppression function, multi axes servo amplifiers, expanded predictive maintenance capabilities powered by Mitsubishi Electric’s Maisart® AI technology, a 31.25μs communication cycle time, multi-network capability including compatibility with CC-Link IE TSN® and EtherCAT®. In addition, MELSERVO-J5, like previous MELSERVO products, was designed with long-term migration paths in mind, making retrofits and upgrades, both now and in the future, easier and more cost-effective for users.

MELSERVO-J5’s new and improved features unlock benefits across various industries. Industry leading communication cycle time combined with a 3.5kHz speed frequency response rate ensures precise, responsive movement and short settling time. Compatibility with CC-Link IE TSN facilitates IoT infrastructure across the manufacturing enterprise, and enables time synchronization across all connected devices at one gigabyte per second (1 Gbps). The MELSERVO-J5 Series is also able to meet any axis requirements, from single axis to a 256 multi-axis system, due to its scalable synchronous axes—while all the motion modules are programmed in a single software environment.

“MELSERVO-J5 servo products set the standard for servo performance in the world of factory automation,” said Sunny Ainapure, senior product manager at Mitsubishi Electric Automation, Inc. “Cutting-edge technology, performance and advanced servo features allow users to unlock unused potential in their machines and factories.”
